Report: Retailers sell 5G smartphones for 150 bln rbl in Jan–Sep

MOSCOW, Dec 8 (PRIME) – The sales of 5G smartphones in Russia rocketed by 19 times to 150 billion rubles in January–September and by 13 times to 1.8 million units, and the average price leaped to 83,300 rubles from 57,500 rubles at the beginning of 2021, business daily Kommersant reported on Wednesday quoting retailer M.Video-Eldorado.

The price was boosted by a release of Apple smartphones supporting 5G and an overall interest to flagship devices for more than 50,000 rubles from all the brands, M.Video-Eldorado said, adding that demand for such gadgets increased by 70% on the year.

The 5G feature is not the key criteria of choice of a new smartphone, “but in view of a long-term kind of demand and the period of exploitation of two–three years, owners of devices will be able to enjoy all the advantages of 5G connection in the future,” the retailer said.

Mobile electronics retailer Svyaznoy said its sales of 5G smartphones rose by nine times by revenue and eight times in units in January–November, and the average price grew by 13% to 81,100 rubles.
